Wandering around reading different blogs and found this Free BOM at Project House 360. It caught my eye and thought you might like it also. Thru The Woods starts in Feb.
Downloads for each block are free in the current month. After that they will cost $3.
There is even a Yahoo group you can join to share with others . mmmm.... can't decide which one I like better.

I haven't crocheted in a long time but I'm tempted to make these. They look so comfy.
I found a great tutorial with lots of pictures at Zoom Yummy.

These Cloth Book panels are darling. I' m thinking they would
be great to add in the little one's Easter basket.

I love Sara's Stash! Blue is my favorite color. Just ask
anyone who has been in my house.

Still Standing!!
I thought about now I would be writing in a new personal blog. After a crazy fall and holiday season when Sandy and I thought for sure we were closing, here we are, still standing.
Although our inventory is low at the moment, things will be changing in the next couple weeks.

We have had a busy non-quilty week.

When we uncovered our pool this is what we saw

Here is how our pool looked 2 weeks ago.

Then the pool guys came

and worked very hard.

Not a fun job on a hot day.

Just in time for the heatwave. Nice!

Of cousrse these 2 kept an eye on things.

Then it was off to work on the boats.

Go for the 1st cruise this year.

and of course stop for a dip.

Now it's time to get back to quilting.

Decided to make a new patriotic tablerunner for the coming holidays.

So to have fun I played around with some red, tan and blue fabric from the Betsy Ross collection.

From a sewing stand point it was not a good day. I think I ripped as much as I sewed. LOL!

This is what I came up with. I'm not in love with it but when it's finished it will look nice in our family room.

mmm...I just might tea dye it. I'll post directions for it later(have to write them) in case anyone is interested.

Also Quilt Market is this weekend. For new quilters this is where designers, notion and fabric manufacturers showcase all their new products. Sandy and I went a few times and it is very exciting. I like her idea of using fusible web. I used thin batting.

I'll try that next. They make great hostess gifts.

Signs of Spring
Just in time for Easter our tulips are blooming. Will be having an
Easter Brunch this year. I did this once before and everyone really liked it.
The menu will be:
ham

Strata
Fresh fruit
bagels and cream cheese
Carrot cake

I'm debating whether to also make some Baked French toast.

Oh No!!!

Signs of Summer!
It's a little early to uncover our pool but we noticed how
low the water level was. Looks like it's time for a new liner.
This will be the 2nd time to replace it and the last. It will most
likely outlive us. LOL!!

Finally got around to making a Twister quilt.

Then decided to figure out out to make this twister wreath.
Here is what I ended up with.

This is how I laid out the charm squares.

My friends Sally and Page showed me how to make these
nifty drink coasters that open to fit the bottom of stem glasses.
Easy and fun to make. You can make one in under ten minutes.

IPhone apps

Finally found some time to explore the world of apps on my IPhone. All I can say is WOW!! Another new world to learn about. After downloading Facebook and Youtube and the barcode scanner it was time to look around. Of course 1st search was for anything to do with quilts. Surprise! Lots of good quilting apps.

If you like making your own totes and bags in all sizes and shapes then this is the only blog you'll need

to bookmark. Tons of free tutorials for making at least 100 different bags.

And what I really like is there are clickable photos that take you to the tutorials.

How many times have you clicked on a link and then not cared for the pattern.

Not here! Think of the time you'll save. Anyway I hope you like it.

Meet Blue

My new computer. Last week my old computer died.
I've been all week getting all my programs back and installed.
After I lost all my files back in January I decided to try Mozy an online back up storage site.
I'm here to tell you it was the saving grace. Restored all of my files except my EQ files. So far I haven't been able to
figure out why. But thankfully I did copy most of these to disk.
I really don't like setting up a new computer.

Civil War Blocks

I am soo far behind making these but, I'm still trying to decide what to do with them. I don't want a big quilt.
So maybe small quilts like wallhangings and tabletoppers would work. This way I can do them scrappy or in colorways.
I'm also wondering about the size. A lot of people are having trouble getting the blocks to finish the correct size.
On one of the lists I'm on someone was talking about drafting them to 6" blocks. That way the math seem to work better.
I'd love some input from anyone who is making these.
Are you having trouble with the 8" size?

Best Friends.
Abby(the little one) is finally recovered from her knee surgeries back in January.
We had to keep her on a leash and not allow her to run our jump.
Ever try to keep a puppy down? Not an easy thing to do. But on the bright side it gave
recently retired DH something to do all winter. :)

Wow, some great mug rugs have already been posted. Great job!
Quilts of ValorIt's been on my list to do something for the Quilts of Valor program. But finding the time to make a quilt has been next to impossible lately. So this is perfect and very doable for me.
Moda's challenge is to make 100 quilts in 100 days using Flag of Valor pattern by Minnick and Simpson. All you have to do is make 1 star block and sent it to them.

Mug Rug Contest

I've been MIA again.
Sorry! This time it was totally my fault. When I was trying to change the template to a spring looking one I ended up losing everything. So I've been cramming away figuring out to fix it. And I hope it is!!

Mug Rug Contest

I think I have finally organized everything that is needed for a contest.

There is now a new Scrap Mug Rug Contest on Flickr where you can upload your photos and also an area for discussions.

For more ideas and a chance to see some very creative inspirations visit these Flickr Mug Rugs pages.

Some ideas I've been playing with for mug rugs

Now for the details.
The contest will run from March 6 until April 30th. You can enter as many times as you want.
After the 30th we will pick (with the help of our quilting group),
10 finalists and then create a poll where you can vote for the winners!

The size should be no larger than 8" x 11". Most seem to fall into the 5.5" - 8" range, rectangle or round is ok.

Rugs can be any design you choose.
You can make them as simple or creative as you want.
Photos need to show a finished mug rug.
Remember to include your e-mail and 1st name when you upload your photo.
Photos without e-mails will not be eligible to win.

And now the prizes -
1st place - a 1 year subscription to The Quilt Show and a $25 gift certificate to This-n-That Fabrics

Lost Treasures Found

Around 2 weeks ago after wandering around our shop looking at the civil war fabrics I said to Sandy that I thought some of our fabrics were no longer showing on our site. Last week I started going through all the fabrics and boy did I get a suprise! So far I've scanned and uploaded over 100 bolts of mostly civil war fabrics that somehow had just disappeared off the site . .

You'll find lots of new "found" fabrics, mostly Jo Morton and Judi Rothermel. Here are a couple of the lost fabrics. Tomorrow I'm starting on the rest of the shelves. Wonder what I'll find. Stay tuned.

Anyone who enjoys quilts from the Civil War will love quilt historian Barbara Brackman's new blog, Civil War Quilts. Every week during 2011 she will be posting a new block with directions along with true stories about people who lived during the Civil War. Last Minute Gifts

Yesterday I was invited to lunch at my friend Sally's lovely home. (sorry no pictures) There were 2 other ladies there, Jennifer and Paige, and they are QUILTERS! YEAH!! For so long it seemed like all of my friends had other interests so I was always off on my own quilting. We are planning to get topgether once a month. Maybe they will also join our quilt group.

It was way to cold to go out and shop last night so I spent some time surfing around the internet. Haven't done this in awhile. I came across this great video of quilts from Houston Quilt Market.

Then came across this tutorial at G Magazine Online. A great go green project.

Hope everyone had a delicious Thanksgiving. We sure did. For the 1st time ever we devoured the whole turkey! oh my, no leftovers. I love leftover turkey so had amother in the freezer and cooked again on Friday LOL!

Things are still progressing on my sewing room. I'm in love with this new floor. It's Vinyl so that makes it waterproof and it looks like hardwood. The walls are done so we are almost there.

The year was 1972. My 1st son was a newborn and I wanted something different.
The colors are so 70's. LOL! mmm... Now that I'm back from a wonderful trip down Memory Lane, I'll continue.......

I finally made time to make this test Twisted Pinwheel quilttop, well at least get it cut out.

Played around with paper and came up with the size of the template I needed and took an old ruler and cut it down.

Now I'm working on making a bigger one for a Christmas gift.

I just started a small quilt group in our community. We had our 1st meeting on Sunday. So far there are 5 of us and we are all excited about finding others with mutual interests. Our first official meeting will be in January. So I have plenty of time to put together an agenda. Having never belonged to a guild I'm a little in the dark as to what activities and fun things can be done at monthly meetings. I know we can do show and tell and we are planning to eventually to make some quilts for the Children's Hospital. I was thinking of maybe demonstrating a new technique each month.

Daddy's Home!! This is a daily routine whenever dh comes home.

I'm amazed how the new pups fit right in and how the 3 cavs hang out

together.

This last weekend has been project time.

I have been wanting to paint 1 wall in our family room for awhile

and this is the color I ended up with. I'm happy with it. It really makes

the room cozier. A side note- the quilt is the 1st one I ever made. Certainly not perfect but holds

a special place in my heart. Some day I will switch it but for now I think it looks good.

Only 1 mishap. The can of paint spilled. Thank heavens it was latex paint. Some managed to

splatter on our beige carpet. It took some scrubbing but I was able to get the stain out. Whew!

Then it was time to tackle my sewing room. OH NO!

It took almost a day to get everything moved out!

This is the color of one wall. The color is a medium sage. The others will be painted a lighter shade.

We are also installing a new floor. Right now there is carpet and I don't have to tell

you how threads and carpet don't mix. So a wood finish laminate floor will be added after we finish all the painting..

The next time you need to figure yardage for a quilt you want to make try this neat program.

Andover Fabrics have added some really nice new free patterns. These are a few that I like.

I've put Celebrate on my list to make for spring.

Well I'm guess it's time to get painting. Can't get any quilty stuff done until it's finished.

Hope everyone had a safe and happy Halloween. It was quiet in my neighborhood. I think maybe we had

about 10 trick or treaters.

Hope everyone can get out to vote today.

Beautiful weather here today. The polls were packed when DH and I went.

I've spent the last 3 days getting everything I need uploaded to my laptop.

Still don't have a verdict on my desktop. Hope it can be fixed. Sure don't want to loose some of things I know have not been backed up. Fingers crossed.

We just added a couple new charm packs.

Our Family Is Growing

We just had 2 Cavalier King Charles dogs arrive from Florida. Meet Marco and Simone. They came from a lovely family and are the cutest, most well behaved dogs. Seem like their new house was built with drywall from China and happens to be toxic. To make matters worse the builder is no longer in business. They have had to move to temporary housing until the house is fixed and sadly could not keep their babies. So we were going to just be a foster family, but as all dog lovers know, that just didn't happen. Marco has bonded with DH so there is no saying goodbye.

These are the pilots and the plane that flew them up from Florida

Seems like there is a network of pilots that will fly rescue animals for free.

How wonderful is that!!!

Well, I'm off to mail that new little baby quilt to its new owner.

We're Back!

Gee, I don't know if anyone is still around, but I'm here and ready to start blogging again. This summer was a bear both personally and proffesionally. But all is well now. YEAH!! So, I guess I'll just start talking.
Hope everyone is fine and getting ready for the holidays. I haven't even started.

Last week my daughter was helping her boyfriend clean out his grandpops house and called to tell me they found an old sewing machine and did I want it. Old? Sewing machine? You bet! Well, here it is. I couldn't believe it was a Featherweight! It's in beautiful condition, looks hardly used. And it's mine!!!!

Now from old to new. Some of the new modern fabrics have been catching my eye. Hard to believe, me? modern? Never thought that would happen. So I started browsing some modern blogs. The 1st thing I noticed was the simplicity in all the quilt designs. Then the bold colors. I needed to make a baby boy quilt so since the parents are young I thought this would be a good place to test the waters. I really liked the blues and browns in the collection Pure from Moda. So now all I needed was a pattern.

One of my favorite places to go is Oh Fransson! Elizabeth has wonderful fresh designs and she offers some great tutorials. I chose one called Charm Squares Baby Quilt.

The other thing I noticed was how interesting the backs are.

So I thought, I can do that too!

Oh, all the pictures on these blogs are great. Need to work on mine.

Hooking

Before venturing into our internet quilt shop I was starting to get into rug hooking and loving it.

This was my 1st project using wool that I dyed. It's something that I had to put on the back burner because of time restraints. But I think I hear it calling. mmmm... now where did I put all of my dye pots?

In the meantime I started wondering how this would look in fabric. So here it is.

LOL! Not bad, huh.

This is what I have made so far using selvages. It's my canvas ready to applique. LOL!

We sure have lots of selvages around here so of course my mind is buzzing with ideas.

Yeah! Summer weather this weekend. Just in time to get the gardens ready for planting day.

Our neigborhood Civic Assoc, has a flower sale every year and I have a bunch coming next Friday.

Over at Sew Prim Khris there is this great turorial for a very nice tote. With summer around the corner this would make a nice beach bag. While there check out Khris' other tutorials. I really like the fabric flower.

Are you working on a selvage project to enter in our contest? I have started sewing the strips but haven't decided what to make. Of course I can't really enter the contest but I can pretend. :)

Karen Griska has a wonderful book called Quilts From The Selvage. Here is a pic of the cover. Amazon currently has this on sale.

Karen also has a Selvage blog that has so much info on selvages that you'll be there for hours looking at all the projects.

Sandy and her dh are getting ready to leave for Rendezvous. They get to spend 5 days camping and living the very primitive lifestyle of the 1700's. You are not allowed to bring AN|YTHING modern.

All has to be period appropriate.

Now, I love to camp but I need the motorhome with electric, heat and ac. LOL!

This-n- Thats' Selvage Challenge

Everyone is talking about all the fun projects being made with selvages.
We mentioned in a previous post that we were planning a Challenge that involved them.
Well we have worked out the details and are ready to tell you all about them.

There will be three categories that you can participate in:
Quilt/Wall Hanging
Purse/Tote
Clothing/Misc

All projects must be at least 50% selvages.

There will be one winner chosen from each category plus one grand prize winner.
The category winners will receive a one year subscription to the QuiltShow and the
Grand Prize winner will be awarded a Vintage Singer Featherweight,

We are sorry, but because of restrictions this contest can only be open to residents of the U.S.

To enter, just email us 2 photos (one a closeup of your project and the other a picture
of you holding the project.) along with your name, state of residence and contact
email address for notification purposes. Send pictures to thisnthatfabrics@aol.com.
The closeup photo will be posted on Facebook.

When the eyes just don't have it anymore

Something about being over 50 makes you see things differently. Meet my new friend and quilt notion. Magnifying seam ripper.
This was my big purchase last week at the quilt show and today I gave it a try.
It took awhile to get it in the correct position but when I did it worked like a charm. YES! Sometimes it's the little things that make life easier.
Anyone else use this?

Also purchased this one but haven't used it yet.

On my list is this cute magnifying floor lamp that I can use for doing hand work. Any feedback on this?

April Fools Day

Every year April 1st brings back a memory from when I was a child. I grew up in Philly and my Nanny lived in the next block. Faithfully, on April 1st. she always called us in a panic wanting to know who's house was on fire. And like FOOLS every, year not remembering what day it was, we would all run outside to see. LOL! She would be hysterical laughing when we came back to the phone!
It's funny, the older I get the more I seem to think about events from my childhood.

Lancaster quilt show

We are back from Lancaster. Lots of happy quilters wandering around. Here are a couple pictures. Sadly they are only of booths. We were not allowed to photograph the quilts.

There were some really nice ones too. A lot were contemporary.

This was our favorite booth. Look closely at the the darling little quilts in the frames.

There is a set for each season. We are ordering the patterns and frames tomorrow. The Halloween one is my favorite. I'll post when we get them in.

And finally, what a surprise. This is one of my free patterns! I don't remember which booth this was in but this was available as a kit. Love the fabric choices.

Just about everyone loves marshmallow peeps at Easter time. Seems like the Washington Post has a Diorama Peeps Contest every year. The creativity is amazing.

One of my goals this year is to take time to learn new quilty things and take some classes.

On my list was learning to make the Disappearing 9-Patch block. (I can't believe I've not made this yet). This morning I came across Sew Wonderful Blog and there it was, a tutorial for making one. So I grabbed some scraps and started playing.

This is really a fun block to make!

Sign of Spring

The Crocus are up! The robins are here! A sure sign that Spring is coming. And boy does it feel like spring today.
A lot of us are sure glad to kiss this winter bye-bye.
I am so excited that tonight I get to print out all the quilt name suggestions. It's know it's going to be hard. There are so many great names.
I am still working on writing the instructions but should be able to post it on our website this weekend. It will be on our Free Patterns page .

Getting ready to celebrate St Patty's Day. Do you make special food for the holiday? Geesh, I think I've been making Irish Potatoes since I was around 12 years old. They are soo good! I just came across the cutest Easter/Spring wallhanging at Craftideas.

Was wandering around some fabric maker sites looking at the new lines and found these interesting free projects at Marcus.

Great for using up scraps. We also just added some new fabric American Pastimes that might work.
Over at Pink Penguin I found a tutorial for cutest fabric basket .

Well I'm off to cut some orders and do some writing.

Dh was on his way out to fly his model airplane at Valley Forge Park but just found out there is a no fly zone in effect because the President is coming to Philadelphia. Really? Model airplanes?

I'm going to be working on my new quilt design this week. Sewing it together and the fun part, writing directions. When I'm finished it will be available as a free pattern for a limited time.

I haven't named it so let's have a " Name Linda's Quilt Contest"

There is so much to see and do that you could get lost there for a whole day!!

New Things!

Who among us doesn't like new stuff? Sandy and I are on our way to pick up lots of new fabric.

And we'll be able to offer them at really good prices.

I can fell my creative juices starting to flow already. Here is a sneek peek of a new tabletop/wallhanging design I'm working on. Hopefully later today I'll be able to start sewing. Yeah!!

And this is the fabric I've decided on. I haven't named it yet. Lightbulb!!! We could have a quilt naming contest! Let me think on this and I'll put some kind of contest together.

I can't believe it's been so long since my last post. Dh an I spent some of that time on vacation in Cancun. Boy did we pick a great week to be away. My daughter was at home taking care of our pups. Lots of snow and no power.

and I just heard we may have another big storm on the way. What a winter we're having here in the east. Must be making up for all the mild ones we've had the last few years.

Sandy and I have been working on making some changes to our website.

We are lowering prices. We will still only sell top quality fabric from well known manufacturers.

But we will make it available for the lowest price we can. Stay tuned for more info on more changes.

I also want to make this blog better. If you have suggestions just send them in. Would love to hear about what you like best in blogs.

While wandering around looking for some trivia for our newsletter I came across this poem and couldn't resist posting it for you to read.
Sooo true!

T'was the month after Christmas, and all through the house,
nothing would fit me, not even a blouse;
The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I had to taste,
at the holiday parties had gone to my waist;

When I got on the scales there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber),
I'd remember the marvelous meals I'd prepared,
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared;

The wine and the rum balls; the bread and the cheese,
and the way I'd never said, "No thank you, please."
As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt,
and prepared once again to do battle with dirt,
I said to myself, as only I can,
"You can't spend a winter disguised as a man!"

So, away with the last of the sour cream dip.
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip.
Every last bit of food that I like must be banished,
'til all the additional ounces have vanished.

I won't have a cookie--not even a lick.
I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.
I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie,
I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.

I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore,
But isn't that what January is for?
Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.

New Year's Eve

Time for a break. I've been doing inventory all day and my eyes are starting to cross.LOL.
And looking at the clock tells me it's almost time to start dinner for tonight. We are having a couple of our best friends over to celebrate the new year. They will be spending the night also.
So here is the menu

Dinner- Roast beef, potatoes, asparagus, broccoli and Yorkshire pudding.

and who doesn't love yorkshire pudding! Yummy

Dessert will be pumpkin pie and cheesecake along with leftover Christmas cookies.
Numerous snacks for tonight.

For breakfast I've made a sausage strata and bagels.
Here is my recipe for Sausage Strata
2lbs bulk sausage cooked with about a tablespoon of mustard added.
In a blender mix 6 eggs, 4 cups of milk, salt and pepper to taste and a dash of nutmeg.
Trim the crust off about 15 slices of your favorite bread.
Place the bread in the bottom of 9 x 13 pan that has been sprayed with pam.
Drain the sausage and spoon on top of bread.
Sprinke 1lb of shredded cheese ove the sausage. I use Swiss but use whatever you like.
Pour the egg mixture on top, cover and refrigerate overnight.
Bake covered in 350 oven for 50 minutes. Uncover and bake another 10 min.
I like to serve it with bagels and muffins.
* The best thing about this dish is you can really use anything you like. I have made it with broccoli, with asparagus and ham and with bacon. Easy to make and no mess in the morning.
So I think I have everything covered.

Snowed In and Loving It!

We have been blasted with a huge snowstorm here in eastern PA. Here is a pic looking out my front window.
Think we received about 24", a record for December. So it looks like we will have a White Christmas!!

A great backdrop for our christmas tree.

This is what we made for a fundraiser. Very easy to make. We used felt for the background

and wool scraps for the applique.
